October 22nd, 2016 - SCBWI North Texas - Drawn to Write Event with Ben Clanton!

The North Texas Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators presents a series of sessions with author/illustrator/editor Ben Clanton. Discover more about the picture, graphic novel and chapter book making process. From words to pictures, Ben will cover making great children's books from a number of perspectives giving insights on interplay, pagination, character development, and idea generation. Come prepared to play! There will be oodles of hands-on opportunities.

The Morning session is geared toward picture book writers and/or illustrators and the afternoon session is for Illustrators only.

BEN CLANTON is the author-illustrator of such picture books as Mo's Mustache (an NPR Best Books of 2013 pick), the critically acclaimed Something Extraordinary, The Table Sets Itself, Rex Wrecks It!, Vote for Me!, and It Came in the Mail (JUNE 2016). Ben also illustrated several books in Caroline Adderson's Jasper John Dooley chapter book series as well as leveled readers by Wiley Blevins. Recently Ben has dived into graphic novels with NARWHAL: Unicorn of the Sea. In addition to writing and illustrating Ben also designs and recently joined the Little Bigfoot imprint of Sasquatch Books as an editor-at-large. When he isn't working on a book (and often when he is) Ben enjoys cooking, playing basketball, and reading (he especially enjoys science fiction).     • Take Exit #12, FM 67 (NOT HWY 67 which you'll also pass) 
    • Turn Right (West) on FM 67
    • Follow this long and some times winding road about 6.5 miles
    • Cross 171 (there will be a gas station on your right)
    • You'll now be on Gathings Ave.
    • the birdhouse is in the old time strip center on your right
